...a little about me...
Mr. Brantley
Hello,
I received my bachelor and master's degrees from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. I have done post graduate work and added High Ability classwork and research through Purdue University.
Prior to attending BSU, I met and married my wife Cheryl at Purdue. Go Boilers!! Together we enjoy our daughter Grace, son Declan, an amazing bulldog Buddy, my daughter's dog Fin and just this summer a new rescue bulldog Turtle. We are all pleased to be in Indiana.
I started teaching in first grade, at Castle Hills Elementary in San Antonio, Texas in 1998. There, I took on the role of Castle Hills webpage coordinator in 1999, rewrote their website and developed several programs and clubs. This was an exciting learning experience. I was hard to leave Texas, but in 2005 it was time to relocate to be closer to family in Indiana. I continued in first grade for five more years before moving to 3rd grade in 2010.
Upon my return to Indiana, I taught first grade at Burnett Creek Elementary. Then I was lucky to have to offer to teach at Cumberland...where my daughter was getting ready to start kindergarten (2006). Since then she has graduated from WL HS and Purdue University in Elementary Education. My son completed his senior year at Wl and will be attending IUPUI!
I believe it is important to be able to provide information to parents and students easily at home or at work. I work hard to create a community and a level of communication to keep parents informed and involved. I always work to create a solid classroom community. If you are in my classroom, as a parent or a student, you’ll hear from me regularly with news, information and updates.
I am very proud to be at home at WLES, even though I’ll always think of it as Cumberland Elementary. Every year I look forward to meeting a new classroom of students and their families.

After teaching third grade since 2010, I've decided third graders are pretty cool!!...they can work through really tough equations, they are capable and have the foundations to solve grand problems, and with the right motivations they truly can accomplish anything.
I began training my bulldog Buddy almost immediately after he joined our family Christmas 2017. He has received certification as CGC (Canine Good Citizen) and is a registered Therapy dog. We are beginning our journey together visiting places in the community as a working therapy dog. I always look forward to the new school year! |
